OPENING SUMTER COUNTY MUSEUM EXHIBIT (KOREAN WAR ERA)

ON 4JUNE04 the Sumter County Museum opened the newest exhibit on the Korean War. They obtained many photos from local Korean War veterans and of course the IPMS Sumter/Shaw AFB Club helped by researching and building model replicas of aircraft flown at Shaw AFB during that time period. We went to great lengths to obtain and fabricate the same markings found on the planes based here. The aircraft we built include the F-6 ( RP-51 Mustang),P-47N Thunderbolt,T-6 Texan, L-20 Beaver, RF-80 Shooting Star,F-84 Thunderjet, and the RB-26 Invader. The members who built and loaned the models are Tony Abbott, Tim Darrah, Paul Lovell, Gary Stevens, and Norm Taylor. Individual pictures of each of the aircraft featured at the county museum are located in the member photo gallery.
