| SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER KEN GARDNER FORMER USAF PILOT |
| On 2June04 the IPMS SUMTER CHAPTER had a special guest Ken Gardner. Ken was a former USAF fighter pilot who flew several interesting types of aircraft such as the NA F-100,Republic F-105D, and the MDD F-4. His favorite was the single seat F-105D Thunderchief. He had two tours in the Vietnam conflict. He stories of many of the missions he flew. He recalled a couple of flights where his Thud took AAA hits and he managed to nurse them home with luck. He told also of missions in the F-4 Phantom where he flew Mig-Cap cover for the Tay Son Raid commanded by Spec OPS commander Bull Simon. He described the tactics pilots used to dodge SA-2 SAMS being fired at them. Ken gave the club members an interesting lecture on his experiences as a USAF fighter Pilot. Tony Abbott |
